Day 100. Hours, minutes, seconds.

So, it has been 100 days since my accident. Or 2400 hours. Or 144,000 minutes. Or 8,640,000 seconds. But, 100 days will do. In that time, I have taken 540 pills, spent 855 minutes massaging my hand and had 25 hospital appointments. Oh, and celebrated my 21st birthday! And after all of that, today, my hand looks like this:

But it is not yet finished! I still have to go to physio and occupational therapy, but only every other week. I will hopefully be getting a second glove next week with web spacers on too as the webbing between my ring finger and little finger is getting rather chunky. I still can’t fully straighten my ring finger at the tip which can be a pain, but more occupational therapy will hopefully sort that out. If not, there is always surgery, but let’s not talk about that yet.

All in all, it’s going pretty good. All I need to do now is get the 3 months of university work finished and I will be a very happy woman.

  1. Wow came across your blog, that’s so great you’re healing so well. I can relate not first hand, I mean my dad was in an explosion and got burns all over the body 85% (yes lucky to be alive), 3rd/4th degree, in ICU for 5 months, then hospital for 10 mths then another 3 mths in a rehabilitation hospital, the drs said he wouldn’t make the night let alone walk again or even be able to use his hands, it was (and still is) so bad, 25 operations later, skin grafts, re-growing the skin in a lab as he didn’t have enough skin to graft on him and reconstruction of both archilles, then having to learn how to walk again and even though they said he wouldn’t be able to, he is now doing everything. He still has to wear a full body compression suit, and unfortunately the scares wont go away all over his body, I am just grateful he is alive.

Anyway I also know how much pain he was in, he was on so many drugs (ketamine) etc that he didn’t even know who I was most of the time… and he also had cancer before and said having burns is the worst (most painful) thing you can have. Hope healing continues for you too.. Stay strong! Auds :-)

Oh my gosh, I am so sorry to hear about your Dad – I cannot imagine what it must be like for him and also you. I am so glad that he is healing and walking – the body is an incredible thing. Send him my best regards, he is a very amazing man.
